Power flushing is a process used to clean and remove sludge, debris, and other contaminants from central heating systems.
Power Flushing involves connecting a specialized machine to the heating system, which circulates a high-flow, low-pressure water and chemical mixture through the pipes, radiators, and boiler.
The power flushing machine creates turbulence within the system, dislodging and flushing out accumulated sludge, rust, and other deposits that can hinder the performance and efficiency of the heating system.
The process typically includes the use of cleaning chemicals which help break down and remove stubborn deposits which adhere themselves to the heavy duty magnets within the machine' this prevents them from re-entering the heating system and/ or boiler.
Power flushing can help improve the overall efficiency of a heating system by restoring the correct water flow and return to allow heat distribution at a much higher temperature across the whole system, issues such as cold spots on radiators, noisy boilers or frequent boiler breakdowns caused by blockages can be reduced or illuminated.
Recommendations are to have Power Flushing carried out by a qualified "Heating engineer" as they specialises in heating systems and boilers and will have significantly superior experience in the cleaning process' also bare in-mind' "Plumbers" are often NOT Gas Safe registered and so would not be eligible/ Qualified for carrying out works on heating systems which would involve opening or attaching machines to a Gas Fire Boiler!!
A qualified Gas Safe Registered Heating engineer will assess your system's condition by way of utilising Thermal imaging along with other specialised equipment and determine if power flushing is necessary.
In many cases' a heating system does not operate correctly for a number of reasons to include poor or no boiler or heating system maintenance which has allowed debris to build-up withing the system.
Many engineers find that a lot of heating systems have not been installed correctly from the date of installation or that additional radiators have been introduced onto the heating system and piped incorrectly or have TRV's installed onto the wrong side ect.
Finally' if your heating system has been piped with 8 or 10mm pipework' it is advised that Power Flushing "NOT" be carried out' instead a qualified Heating engineer would suggest a chemical clean and or radiator removal for attachment to the Power Flushing machine' flushing 8 or 10mm pipework may often compound the blockage within the small bore pipework which in-turn could lead to the pipework having to be replaced.....this would incur significant costs!!
Find a A-Rated boiler that's right for your home, at a price that's right for your pocket.
